I did it but still failed. Is there a 'instrument library' source that i need to download too?

Thanks a lot! I've had this problem for the past week or so since doing a fresh install of Lion. Using Time Machine to restore the Instrument Library worked like a charm!
Now I can get back to jamming. The easiest way was to use the Terminal commands and when the Library window comes up hit the Time Machine app, select all files in the folder from your last restore point and restore them to the /Library/Application Support/GarageBand folder.
