I bought mine used but almost unfired.the owner said it kicked like a mule and didn't shoot it much. The earlier 740s had a problem with the forend mounting that caused big changes in POI with every shot. This was corrected with the 742. The plastic bolt cover (unneeded) does seem to break after a while, but no big deal. The bolt rails at the back of the receiver may get damaged if elephant-hunting loads are fired often.
